De Chirico's quest into Greek mythology comes to an important stage with the subject of Ettore e Andromaca, of which he paints many different versions throughout almost 40 years. The main characters of Homer’s Iliad, are depicted by the artist as two expressionless mannequins, who although are not lacking in emotional warmth. This warmth, this sense of humanity conferred to the protagonists of the work, is almost tangible, as evidenced by the intertwining of bodies immersed in a metaphysical world.
